Donna Weston, C.P.A.
An executive officer of a California Research University
Before her retirement at the end of 2015, Ms. Weston was the Senior Vice President and Treasurer of The Scripps Research Institute (TSRI). At TSRI, Ms. Weston oversaw all financial activities of both the California and Florida campuses, including grants management, risk management, financial reporting, borrowing and investing, cash flow, preparation of the annual budget, procurement and business computing. Ms. Weston reported to the President and Chief Executive Officer.
Ms. Weston joined TSRI in 1991. TSRI was spun off as a separate legal entity from Scripps Clinic and Research Foundation (Scripps Clinic) in 1991. Prior to joining TSRI, Ms. Weston served in various capacities at Scripps Clinic (including Chief Financial Officer) and was responsible for patient registration, billing and scheduling activities, and information systems. Ms. Weston joined Scripps Clinic as Director of Finance in 1984.
Prior to joining Scripps Clinic, Ms. Weston was a manager at Deloitte, Haskins & Sells. In addition to her C.P.A., Ms. Weston also holds an Associate Bachelor’s degree in English Literature and an M.B.A. in Accounting from San Diego State University where she graduated in 1977.
In 2013, The Treasurer of the State of California appointed Ms. Weston to the Independent Citizens Oversight Committee which oversees the State’s $3 billion investment in stem cell research and therapies. She is also a member of the Investment Committee of the San Diego Gas and Electric Decommissioning Trust for the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station and has served in various capacities on and for the Boards of civic groups including: the San Diego Opera Association, the Maxwell and Muriel Gluck Child Care Center, the Explorer School and Planned Parenthood of San Diego and Riverside County.
